 About the Centre: 

The mission statement of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies (CUCS) is to create, preserve and communicate knowledge dealing with Ukrainian Canadian culture and scholarship. This mission is derived from the University of Manitoba mission statement “to create, preserve and communicate knowledge”.

The CUCS fulfils its mission by:

  • Providing a contemporary, relevant and wide-ranging curriculum;
  • Offering multi-disciplinary undergraduate degree courses;
  • Being proactive in articulating a Ukrainian Canadian academic identity through research and scholarship;
  • Maintaining and increasing community outreach activities integral to its mission;
  • Providing leadership in seeking out and maintaining formal ties with Canadian organizations and Ukraine.

In addition to offering interdisciplinary courses leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Manitoba and sessional instruction opportunities to subject-matter experts, the Centre encourages and promotes research and scholarship in all areas related to Ukrainian Canadian Studies both in Canada and in Ukraine. The CUCS is a resource centre within the Ukrainian Canadian community and beyond.

 Responsibilities:

 Under the supervision of a faculty member of the University of Manitoba, complete a year-long (12 month) research project on any Ukrainian Canadian or Ukrainian topic, culminating in a full, publishable report.

  1. Present at least two public lectures related to the research while in tenure of the program.
  2. Publish at least two articles.

Qualifications: 

Eligibility for the Fellowship (2022-2023):

To be eligible for the postdoctoral fellowship, the candidate must:

  1. Have graduated no more than five years before the closing date of this competition; or, if the Ph.D. is not yet completed,
  2. Have met the requirements of her/his program and have submitted her/his thesis no later than November 1, 2021;
  3. The competition will be open to local and international subject matter experts studying Ukraine/ Ukrainian Canadiana and thereby advancing understanding of Ukrainian politics, history and society.
